1ST DAY OF SCHOOL IMPORTANT INFORMATION

A freshman doesn't need to bring lunch or school supplies on the first day of school!

We will be providing a pizza lunch.

What should my freshman bring on the first day of school? Water bottle
What will they be doing on the first day of school? Students will be getting oriented to FHS, led by their amazing 360 Leaders throughout the day. Schedules will be handed out today. A pizza lunch will be provided, so all they need is their water bottle for day 1. Your freshman will also get their ID.
Drop Off/Pick Up When dropping off your freshman at FHS, please drive through the 'senior lot' and stop at the designated drop-off location. The 'senior lot' is situated on the west side at the front of the school. Note that drop-offs and pick-ups are not permitted in the pull-in area, known as the 'horse shoe' at FHS, located in front of the school.

Infinite Campus

Did you know that in Infinite Campus (IC) you can not only see your child’s grades, schedule and much more!

IC also has apps for iPhone and Android which is another really easy way to keep up on your student’s school performance.

Sign into Infinite Campus to log in or create your account.

When you log in to your IC account, the ‘District Notices’ bulletin board is automatically opened up for you. If you click on the ‘School Notices’ tab just below, you will open the bulletin board specific to Fairview. This Board may display additional information pertaining to activities going on at the school.

IC Mobile App IC also has apps for iPhone and Android which is another really easy way to keep up on your student’s school performance.

Download the app. The Mobile App is available for parents and students.

Enter the name of the district "Boulder Valley" and select "Colorado" when ready to use the app for the first time.

Open Campus

Fairview High School is an open campus. This means your student can come and go as they please during school hours. If they have a doctor's appointment or they need to leave school for a different reason, you Do Not need to call in or sign them out. It is helpful if they are going to leave class in the middle that they let their teacher know ahead of time so it causes as little disruption as possible.

FAIRVIEW HONORS PROGRAM: International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP)

Fairview High School offers students one of the most comprehensive honors programs available in Colorado. With an emphasis on flexibility, the Fairview Honors Program allows students to select among International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP), and other advanced offerings to chart an individual path suited to their own goals and talents.

Grad +

Grad+ is a BVSD initiative designed to increase high school students’ postsecondary opportunities in both higher education and workplace arenas. BVSD wants 12th graders to graduate having met all graduation requirements plus something more. Delineated into four quadrants, the Grad+ framework encompasses advanced coursework, the Seal of Biliteracy, work-based learning and industry certifications.

Fairview's Cafeteria

As you may already be aware, breakfast and lunch are FREE for BVSD students. Students will receive breakfast, along with one entree (with unlimited salad/fruit to accompany the entree) for free each day . Nevertheless it is very important that you fill out the free and reduced application for the current school year, as it affects funding for your school and access to important programs. Homecoming and Prom

There are two main school dances: Homecoming and Prom. Many freshman go to homecoming. Most go in groups of friends, but some may have a date. There is no need to get really dressed up for homecoming, though students usually wear something special. The dance is a fun and safe environment with different themes each year.

Attendance

If your student will be absent please contact the school and let them know. Visit the Attendance/Report page for more information OR call your student's absence in to FHS at 720.561.5352. If you know your student will be absent you can have them complete a Pre-arranged absence form and have teachers sign off on the form prior to the absence.

If your student is absent due to a doctor's visit or other medical reason, don't forget to bring in a doctor's note excusing your student's absence to clear the absence. The student can drop this off at the front office.

Dress code

The Boulder Valley School District believes all students have the right to an equitable education and should be able to dress, and style their hair, for school in a manner that expresses their individuality without fear of unnecessary discipline or body shaming. Enforcement of this universal dress code shall not create disparities, reinforce stereotypes or increase marginalization of any group, nor will it be more strictly enforced against students because of racial identity, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, gender nonconformity, sexual orientation, cultural identity, religious identity, household income or body type/size.

Fairview's approach to discipline, attendance and suspension

Students are to maintain behavior that promotes safety and respect for all. The BVSD Policies JD/JR, JDC, JDC-R, JDD, JDHB, JDSE, JFCH/JFCI, JBB, JDDA, JBB, and KE list specific conduct that shall be maintained by students and activities that will result in disciplinary action.

Though suspension is a commonly used disciplinary technique, and supported by BVSD Policy JDSE/JDSE-R (Spanish Policy JDSE-SP/JDSE-R-SP), Fairview High School recognizes that although suspending students from school is sometimes necessary, there are other responses to violations of rules that can be implemented as first steps that do not remove a student from school.

As part of the discipline procedure, FHS has implemented a range of strategies to increase positive choices from students, reduce misbehavior while maintaining a safe learning environment. Some of these strategies include community service, restorative practices, substance abuse classes, counseling, and conflict resolution. In some suspension cases one of the above listed alternatives may be explored.

It is important to note that when FHS implements a suspension alternative to a student, the fidelity of the consequence must be 100% adhered to in order to reach a successful learning outcome for the student. This includes but is not limited to dates, times, and location of community service and/or restorative practices. For student athletes, additional sanctions will be imposed per the athletic code of conduct. Suspensions may be reported to college or universities depending on the individual school’s requirements.

Our goal is to use an instructional, rather than a punitive approach to addressing discipline. At the same time, our expectation is that all students follow the policies set forth by Fairview High School and the Boulder Valley School District.

School Administration will determine if a student is “under the influence,” in possession of, or has used alcohol or illegal substances by a body of evidence which could include, but not be limited to: smell, eyes, speech, behavior, etc.

Disciplinary action can result from acts outside regular school hours or the regular school year or off school grounds, which embarrass, humiliate, or degrade other students, staff members, or the reputation of Fairview High School, or which interfere with the school’s ability to operate effectively. These undesirable actions may result in suspension from any part, or all, of an activity or athletic season, or from school.

Fairview High School's counselors provide essential social and emotional support to all students, helping them navigate challenging times. To make an appointment, students or parents/guardians can email their counselor or call the counseling desk at (720) 561-3212. Students may also drop in before or after school, during an off period, or during lunch (but not during class) to speak with the counselor-on-duty. Wellness Center

The Wellness Center is a safe and supportive space where students can rest and recharge, connect with their peers or talk with a Mental Health Advocate about their feelings and experiences.

One goal of the Wellness Center is to show that early intervention matters – recognizing and addressing mental health concerns early can make a significant difference in a student’s life.

Volunteer Opportunities

The School Accountability Committee (SAC)

State and federal governments stress the importance of family involvement in educational accountability. The School Accountability Committee (SAC), consisting of parent representatives, advises the school principal. The SAC reviews school budgets, promotes school improvements, and supports parent engagement. According to BVSD policy, a SAC member from each school must also serve on and communicate with the District Accountability Committee (DAC).

Fairview Parents Organization (FPO)

The FPO is here to support the teachers, staff and students at Fairview High School. We do important work such as providing food for teacher conferences, organizing community events, and raising money to support Fairview High School. The Fairview Choir Organization (FCO)

The Fairview Choir Organization is a parent volunteer 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to support the Fairview Choir Department, both physically and financially.

We oversee many aspects of the department including ticketing, wardrobe, publicity, fundraising, social events, etc.

We rely upon parent volunteers and financial support to maintain our high quality program that has been recognized throughout the United States.

Frequently Asked Questions

student id's/Access Card

All Fairview students are issued an identification badge. Students must have their Fairview student ID badge to scan in for admission at the entrance doors of the school building, and to board school buses. They must have their ID with them every day at school, and at all school activities. Pictures are taken during registration/schedule pick-up. Replacement ID cards are printed in the front office, the replacement cost $5.

Students will have the opportunity to take their picture for their school ID (all students) and yearbook.
Please be sure to be school appropriate in your ID pictures (no costumes, wigs, etc) and do not alter your appearance as these pictures are important to identify students on a daily basis and are important for security purposes.
