DISCIPLINE, ATTENDANCE & SUSPENSION
Student Conduct and Discipline Policies
At Fairview High School, we prioritize safety and respect for all students. To support this, we follow the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) policies on student behavior and discipline. Below is an overview of our approach and key policies.
Behavior Expectations
Students must adhere to BVSD Policies:
- English: JD/JR, JDC, JDC-R, JDD, JDHB, JDSE, JFCH/JFCI, JBB, JDDA, JBB, and KE
- Spanish: JD/JR-SP, JDC-SP, JDC-R-SP, JDD-SP, JDHB-SP, and JDSE-SP.
Access Policies: Copies can be obtained from a school administrator or viewed on the BVSD Policy Website.
Discipline Procedures
Fairview High School focuses on instructional responses to discipline rather than punitive measures. While suspension is supported by BVSD Policy JDSE/JDSE-R (Spanish: JDSE-SP/JDSE-R-SP), we emphasize alternative strategies to address rule violations, including:
- Community service
- Restorative practices
- Substance abuse classes
- Counseling
- Conflict resolution
Important Notes:
- Alternatives to suspension require strict adherence to conditions, including dates, times, and locations.
- Student athletes face additional sanctions as outlined in the athletic code of conduct.
- Suspensions may be reported to colleges or universities depending on their policies.
Substance Use Determinations
School administration will assess whether a student is “under the influence” or in possession of substances based on evidence such as:
- Smell
- Eye appearance
- Speech
- Behavior
Off-Campus or Off-Hours Conduct
Disciplinary action may apply to actions outside school hours or off school grounds that:
- Embarrass, humiliate, or degrade others
- Harm the reputation of Fairview High School
- Interfere with school operations
Consequences may include suspension from activities, athletics, or school.
Our Goal
Fairview High School is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment. Our goal is to approach discipline with instruction and care, fostering positive growth while ensuring all students follow the policies set forth by Fairview High School and BVSD.
