Classic Knights Orchestra
The Classic Knights Orchestra (N81) is a non-audition group of students in grades nine through twelve. Emphasis is placed on exploring different periods of string orchestra literature. Goals include excellence in performance, creating beauty through solid technique, ear training, an understanding of style, and bringing string music to the community as a long-term commitment.
Select Orchestra
Students including incoming Freshmen may choose to audition for the Classic Knights Select Orchestra (N82). This intermediate and distinguished group serves as a perfect middle ground between the other two orchestras and incoming Freshmen are encouraged to audition. Select students are expected to be ready to further develop their skills through diverse repertoire and plenty of challenging details.
Chamber Orchestra
Students may also audition for our top group after being in one of the other orchestras, the Chamber Orchestra (N86). This select group places a higher demand upon students, who are exposed to literature normally reserved for college and professional musicians. Chamber students are expected to already be at a high level of playing and be able to learn the music outside of class.
About Us!
The Fairview Orchestra class is a microcosm of the Fairview High School student body that includes student leaders, academic leaders, and student athletes. Individuals have distinguished themselves through selection to all-state groups, college scholarships, and concerto competitions. The orchestras are also well traveled, having given performances in Austria, Belgium, England, France, Holland, and Italy.
The Fairview Classic Knights have been selected nine times to represent Boulder Valley at the state music teachers’ convention at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. They perform four major concerts per year as a large ensemble, and smaller chamber groups perform for many other functions as well. In 2019, the Chamber Orchestra performed at the ASTA National String Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Often, they will collaborate with the choir and band students to perform a rich and varied body of literature.
