Cheerleading is a year-long sport that attends all home/away football games and home basketball games as well as local cheer competition from October - December.

What to Wear

Tryout Clinics

• Wear comfortable, athletic clothing and shoes
• Bring a water bottle and be sure to eat before clinics begin, if needed
• If you do not have cheer shoes, please wear running/workout shoes
• Casual sneakers are not ideal.

Tryout Day

• Candidates must wear solid colored shorts and a white t-shirt with cheer/athletic shoes
  • Small logos and shorts with trim are acceptable. No phrases or graphics on tops/shorts.
• Any colored bow is acceptable (not required)
• Candidates will randomly draw and be given numbers to wear the day of tryouts

** Absolutely no jewelry can be worn at clinics, tryouts, or throughout the season. Hair should be up in a neat ponytail or bun, out of your face. Fingernails should be trimmed to a short length. Masks must be worn at all times while indoors, except while stunting.

Tryout Clinics

Students must register to participate in clinics and tryouts. They are closed to the public.

Clinic: Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 10

• Motion Drill (Basic cheer motions)
• Band Dance (short dance)
• Cheer (Sideline/game day cheer)
• Jumps (Learn/practice multiple jumps and counts for tryouts)
• Stunts (Learn/practice all-girl and/or coed stunting)

Clinic: Wednesday, May 11

• Review: Motion Drill, Dance, Cheer
• Stunt evaluations
• Review and practice tryout material in groups
• Randomly draw numbers for tryouts

Tryouts: Thursday, May 12

• Candidates will tryout in groups of 2-3 for the coaches

Candidates will be evaluated on the following material:

• Stunting skills and positions
• Band Dance
• Sideline Cheer
• Tumbling (Optional)
• Jumps
• Overall Spirit
• Coachable attitude
• Athleticism

Here are some of the symptoms that are typically associated with a concussion.
 

Symptoms you might see	Symptoms they  might report
confusion vomiting balance/coordination off slow responses behavior or personality changes can't remember the event	headache or "pressure" in the head nausea or vomiting balance, coordination or vision problems dizziness sensitivity to light or noise feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy concentration or memory problems confusion just feeling "not right"

1. Seek medical attention right away. A health care professional will be able to decide how serious the concussion is and when it is safe for your student to return to full activity.
    
2. If your student is an athlete, keep them out of play. Concussions take time to heal. Don't let your student return to play until a health care professional says it's OK. Students who return to play too soon - while the brain is still healing - risk a greater chance of having a second concussion. Second or later concussions can be very serious. They can cause permanent brain damage, affecting your student for a lifetime.
    
3. Report any prior concussion. Doctors should know if your student had a recent concussion.
    
4. If your student is not an athlete, they still need time to recover and heal.  Keep physical and mental activity low key and let your school know - they will facilitate a return to learning strategy to support your student.
    
5. Important - Notify the school if your student has had a concussion/head injury. Find your school's health team.
