FAIRVIEW HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL PROGRAM FAQs
Fairview High School baseball strives for excellence in player development and success. We have an elite program with the twin goals of developing players who can compete at the highest level and winning championships. For those who aspire to it, FHS baseball is an excellent program for players who are dedicated to the development, training, and competitive experience to play at the college level but also provides the opportunity for players who desire to play baseball through high school, or as a complement to other sports or activities.
FHS fields teams at the freshman, sophomore, JV and Varsity levels. The freshman and sophomore years afford younger players opportunities to develop and hone their skills through practice, training, conditioning, and competitive play. Baseball is a “cut sport” at the all levels. CHSSAA (Colorado High School Activities Association) rules limit Varsity rosters to 18 players.

When does the FHS baseball season start and how long does it run?
FHS Baseball is a spring sport. Tryouts are held on 2/26/2018 weather permitting. Game play typically begins in March and runs through mid-May. FHS also fields teams for summer ball and fall ball, which is not a requirement for players who desire to only play in the spring.
Where do parents and players get information about tryouts, schedules, practices, etc.?
The FHS Baseball web page features a message board where announcements, schedules, and general information is posted. When teams are established, coaches communicate with players via text and email messages on most matters, and via email with parents if/as needed.
How are players selected for teams?
Skill, ability, and talent all play a role in player/team placements. However, sportsmanship, attitude, and the ability to contribute both as a player and a teammate are important factors as well.
In what circumstances do players become ineligible to play?
FHS Baseball expects players to strive for the highest academic achievement while involved with the program. Balancing academic and athletic endeavors is essential for player success. Students with failing grades are ineligible for play for the following academic week until they are able to improve their grades. Eligibility reports are run weekly. Likewise, players who violate school rules (FHS codes of conduct) may be suspended from or become ineligible for play.
What is Road to the Top?
This program, developed and run by Fairview baseball coaching and adjunct staff, is an opportunity for players from ages 12-18 to succeed at the highest competitive levels. Sessions generally run a rotation of offensive, defensive, base running and agility/ conditioning stations with an emphasis on repetition. The program promotes endurance and skill development and offers a taste of intensive training. It is excellent training for older players with aspirations to play at the college level. It also provides an excellent environment for player developing in the sport. RTT is offered for 6-8 week sessions during the summer, fall, and winter months. Families with players on other sports or activities are advised to compare the RTT schedule with players’ game schedules to determine whether or not to enroll in RTT sessions.
RTT is separate from and does not replace individual team practices.
What fundraising efforts are in place to support FHS Baseball?
FHS Baseball depends on fundraising from families and the community to meet its needs. Currently, FHS Baseball is raising funds to build outdoor batting cages and improve pitching mound areas . King Soopers cards, donations, and other contributions are all important. Contact Coach Castillo for information about how to support the program and help with fundraising efforts.
How can friends and family support FHS Baseball?
There are many ways to contribute to FHS Baseball. Fundraising (as mentioned above) is always needed. Volunteer help is critical for “behind-the-scenes” tasks that help the program run smoothly. On home game days or during FHS hosted tournaments, help is always needed with scorekeeping, announcing, in the snack shack, or clean-up. The spring organizational meeting is a great place to learn about and sign up for volunteer needs. Or contact Coach Castillo for more information.
