Girls Volleyball

When does the season run? The season starts with a week of tryouts in August and ends in late October. The Varsity team will continue a couple more weeks if they make postseason.

What skill level is required? The Fairview Volleyball Program offers five teams, including beginner to advanced players. We have two freshman teams, and Sophomore, Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity team. Freshmen are eligible to play on any team.

We welcome beginners and encourage all levels to attend summer open gyms and camps to get as much training as possible before tryouts in August.

Are there any pre-season requirements? None required, although training on your own and with the Fairview Volleyball Program will greatly help you prepare for tryouts and practices.

Are camps/practices held during the summer? Stay tuned for Summer 2022 opportunities. There will be two skills camps offered, a Nike Camp, and an upperclassmen camp.

Do you make cuts? Yes. Each team is made up of approximately 12 players. We typically have 60 or more players in the program. Some years we have had as many as 120 players trying out for 60 positions. However, if you're not selected for a team, there are lots of other opportunities to play volleyball at Fairview (intramurals, volleyball gym class) and in Boulder (club and rec volleyball).

What can I expect at tryouts? Tryouts are typically a mix of skills testing, drills and play. Coaches are looking for skill, talent, consistency, coachability, a positive attitude, and chemistry with other teammates. The best player doesn't always get offered a spot if they're not also the best teammate.

Team selections are made at the end of tryout week and will be posted on the website.

What is the typical in-season schedule? Practice times are typically held during the following times: Freshmen Teams: 4:15 - 6:00 C-Team: 4:15 - 6:00 JV and Varsity: 6:00 - 8:00p

ALL teams will likely practice together on Fridays from 4:15 - 6pm.

Games -We typically have two matches per week, generally on Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus at least one all-day Saturday tournament. Most matches start around 5:15 or 6:30 p.m., with freshman matches starting at 4:15 p.m.

Are ALL practices and matches required? Yes, students must attend all practices and matches — exceptions only for health reasons and family emergencies.

Do all players have to attend all home matches? All teams are encouraged to support each other. Because of this, we require all levels to be present for ALL home games - no matter the level. Attendance at Varsity home matches is required. Each team also has responsibilities at home games — line judging another team’s match, for example.

What costs are required? Players are required to pay the mandatory Boulder Valley School District fee ($185/season, $405/year family maximum). Players also provide their own spandex/shorts, kneepads and court shoes. Game jerseys and balls are provided by the Fairview Volleyball Program, and spirit pack items — t-shirts, sweats, etc. — are optional. There is a suggested program donation that will be highlighted at the beginning of the season. Any families experiencing financial hardship can have all costs covered via scholarship. Please communicate any financial hardship with the Head Coach or Athletic Dept. Administration Assistant.

Practice Attire: Fairview shirts, or Fairview colors (red, white, black) are required during practice. T-Shirts will be available for purchase at the beginning of the season, but athletes can also just wear plain shirts in school colors.
