Team, Welcome the 2023 Boy’s Tennis season!
Practice starts 8/7. If you are playing this year please make sure to be registered before you come to practice. We will be using the 8 courts at the high school.
Challenge matches begin immediately. Practice will be 4-6pm Monday through Friday starting August 7. Be ready to compete when you show up. These matches will determine your position on the team. Practice may go a little later the first two weeks.
We will have 3 teams this year. Varsity, Varsity 2, and JV. The first two weeks of practice will be designed to have challenge matches and have players be evaluated by the coaches. Your position on the team will be determined by previous years’ results initially, coaches’ evaluations, attrition due to graduation, and challenge match results. Once the ladder or hierarchy is created by the coaching staff, challenge matches will begin. Most matches will be a pro-set with no-ad scoring. If you win you move up. A player will have the opportunity to move up as long as he keeps winning. We have a lot to determine, so players will not necessarily play a challenge match every day. Please be patient, but be ready when you are called to play. If you have to be absent, please notify a coach. Court space and time is precious.
Varsity singles positions will be determined by playing best two out of three tiebreak sets. Varsity doubles positions will be determined by challenge matches. Players will play singles matches to determine who the top 11 players are on Varsity. The next 11 players, or positions 12-22 on the roster, will be Varsity 2. After that is JV. Challenge matches will last roughly 2 weeks, but possibly longer depending on weather and numbers in the program. This is a dynamic process.
You must be registered and cleared by the athletic office to participate. If your name is not on the list provided by the athletic office, we will not let you participate. As soon as you are cleared you can play.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. See you on the courts.
